I just made the assumption that since I have banished refined sugar from my diet, that mean most sweet cereals too. However I'm happy to report, after re-investigating the label the Puffins cinnamon flavor is within my diet.
I discovered Barbara's Bakery Cereals about a year ago when I saw that they were cheaper than the regular cereals I was buying. They were however on sale at the time. Also their ingredients and nutritional information was comparative to other name brands. I just made the assumption that since I have banished refined sugar from my diet, that mean most sweet cereals too. However I'm happy to report, after re-investigating the label the Puffins cinnamon flavor is within my diet. YAY! The sweetener is unsulphured molasses. It made by boiling down cane syrup. The syrup is then separated between the sugars that have crystallized and move on to the refining process. So the molasses has entered the boiling process but has been left out of the refining process. It tastes great with the dried strawberries I threw in there! My husband loves me dearly. He is kind and patient and supportive whenever I go on some new kick that I immediately become obsessed with for several months. He's also super thoughtful. So when he saw sugar cane being sold at the store, he bought one and brought it home for me to prepare. This is the Ultimate of Unrefined Living. I have no idea what to do with this thing. I'm open to suggestions. However, I almost never back down from a challenge so most likely I might try to make Chao Tom. It is Vietnamese for Sugar Cane Shrimp. But I have a lot of cane to use and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to use it all in one recipe. It requires a hatchet or cleaver plus a hammer to cut the rough outer part. And I have almost 4 feet of it. You can literally beat someone with this. I've chewed on raw sugar cane once in Jamaica. Ya Mon, it was good. But then again, I don't see my self chewing 3 feet of sugar cane. (Assuming, I might use a foot of it to make the Chao Tom). |
